Since his initial induction in 2007, the Argentinean star has shattered records by consecutively making the FIFPRO Team of the Year for 17 years. However, the previous year marked the end of this streak as he failed to secure a spot on the Best XI. In the recent couple of seasons, Messi has once more been named among the candidates for the prestigious team, marking his 20th appearance on the Team of the Year shortlist.
